A village of character in the Var, at the gateway to the Verdon Regional Nature Park, Cotignac is about forty kilometres from Draguignan. In the heart of the Provence Verte, this very old village established as early as the 11th century before becoming the property of the Counts of Provence is well known in the region for its large and qualitative production of olive oil. Comfortably installed at the foot of a tufa cliff from which flows a wonderful waterfall, Cotignac boasts a village with a careful architecture, made of restored houses with facades colored in warm tones, which contrast with the blue of the sky and give the village a charm and a certain warmth, typically Provencal. You will discover pretty little flowery squares where it is good to stroll and take your time. Impossible to miss the courtyard in the town centre: lined with plane trees, this square concentrates all (or almost all) the activity of Cotignac. A chic place where you can have lunch on the terrace next to the refreshing fountains which, with their lapping, punctuate your meals. There are also a few cafés where you can take a break, which is necessary to take the time to savour the charm of the place. A lively and festive place, this course welcomes in summer a craft market, but also an antique market, a pottery market, festivals and concerts for all desires. The Cours Gambetta washhouse, the Quatre-Saisons fountains, the old ramparts, the Théâtre de Verdure, the old quarter with its troglodyte houses or the Tour de l'Horloge and its 15th century bell will complete your visit to the town.

Not far away, the Moulin des Ribbes is worth a visit for its panoramic crib, which represents a Provencal village and its customs, and changes with the seasons to reveal a splendid Christmas crib in winter. During this visit, you will discover more than 400 santons and about twenty typical houses of the region, fountains, wash houses and animated mills, which will plunge you into the heart of the local traditions. A few steps away, the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce sanctuary is a must: dedicated to the Virgin, this sanctuary is one of the most visited places in the department, made popular in particular thanks to Louis XIV who made a pilgrimage there with Anne of Austria. In addition to its religious and historical side, this building is worth a visit for the incomparable panoramas it offers of the hills and wooded plains surrounding Cotignac. Hiking enthusiasts passing through the area can also take advantage of the opportunity to visit the Monastère Saint-Joseph du Bessillon, a Benedictine monastery located at the foot of the Bessillon.

Walkers? Climb to the top of the Rock, whose shade refreshes the alleys of Cotignac! Standing majestically over the town, this rock will offer you breathtaking views of the fragrant pines, oaks, cypresses and olive trees that cover the terraced hills surrounding Cotignac, and which offer lovers of green interludes a choice setting in which to stroll. On your way, it is impossible to miss the Cassole waterfall on the eponymous river, or the magnificent Cascade des Trompines: two particularly splendid sites which will not fail to delight young and old alike!
