Montauroux is one of the 9 perched villages typical of the "Pays de Fayence". Ideal destination for holidays between land and sea with the scents of the south, this village on the hillside located not far from the seaside towns of Cannes, Fréjus and Mandelieu-la-Napoule is the perfect place for many activities in the heart of nature, from hiking to water sports, without forgetting the countless mountain bike or motorcycle excursions that you can make in the massifs of the Esterel.
Destination to the thousand and one facets, this jewel of the east Var perched between 100 and 400 meters of altitude in balcony of the Estérel is a small typical village of Provence. The scene of a battle between the Duke of Savoy and Henry VI in 1592, this village built during the eleventh century conceals many treasures, starting with its colorful streets punctuated with ornate doors. Stroll to the rhythm of the soft music of fountains and wash houses in its old streets dotted with feudal ruins, discovering its most remarkable historical monuments. The Chapelle Saint-Barthélemy is one of these monuments not to be missed : built in 1638, this magnificent building is famous for its vault and its walls which have the particularity to be covered with painted wood. Discover the arts and crafts centre, its glass factory, but also the Saint-Michel Chapel, the parish church with its square bell tower surmounted by a wrought iron bell tower, not forgetting the Château de la Colle Noire : built on its rocky promontory, this superb castle has recently been admirably restored by the couturier Christian Dior. In the middle of the hillsides and plains of Montauroux where undulating olive trees and vines of Provence, this country house of the XIXth century decorated with an immense mirror of water is one of most beautiful of all the area.
With some 300 days of sunshine a year, Montauroux, nicknamed the "Balcon de l'Estérel", enjoys a resolutely privileged climate. Classified as a "Green Holiday Resort", Montauroux and its shimmering landscapes are the delight of hiking and discovery lovers, in the heart of preserved natural environments. To the south-east of the city is Lake Saint Cassien : surrounded by green hills, it is bordered by small intimate beaches ideal for parentheses of rest under the sun. Worshipped by carp fishermen, this 430-hectare lake will offer you the opportunity to practice a wide range of water sports, from swimming to pedal-boating, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing. The valleys of the Massif de Tanneron and the red mountains of the Esterel are the scene of many hikes and cycling, but you can also climb and via ferrata. To the north of Montauroux, the Gorges de la Haute-Siagne (classified Parc Natura 2000) are among the most breathtaking natural sites of the Pays de Fayence. 42 kilometres long, the Siagne river rises at 1435 metres above sea level in the municipality of Escragnolles and finally flows into the sea at Mandelieu-la-Napoule. Along its route, countless caves, gorges, natural bridges and waterfalls of rare beauty, amaze hikers every year who take the time to discover them during their peregrinations. The Gorges of Siagnole, those of Blavet or the Bridge of Tanks connecting Montauroux and Saint-Cézaire are among the natural curiosities not to be missed under any pretext.
Finally, Théoule-sur-Mer, Antibes, Cannes and Mandelieu-la-Napoule being only a few kilometres away, it will be possible for you to benefit from the numerous nautical activities along their fine sandy beaches, from sailing to diving in the Gulf of Mandelieu, including water skiing in the bay of Cannes, surfing, paddle and jet-skiing.
