On the edge of the Esterel massif, on a plateau overlooking the Argens valley halfway between the Haut Var and the coast, Bagnols-en-Forêt dominates the fertile plains that lead to the Blavet gorges. With its beautiful houses typical of the region arranged in an amphitheatre, the heart of the village perched at an altitude of 300 metres is a place where you can contemplate and stroll. Take the time to walk through its old streets to admire its authentic character, to linger in its central square planted with high plane trees, but also to contemplate its splendid belfry which dominates the whole village. Marked by history, by prehistory, the Romans and the Middle Ages more specifically, Bagnols-en-Forêt is a cultural destination, and to understand it nothing beats a visit to its archaeological museum (on the 1st floor of the Tourist Office) where you will discover the secrets of cork and olive culture, as well as exhibitions around the archaeological remains found during excavations in the village. Outside the walls, for an immersion visit in the heart of the remains of the city's glorious past, we advise you to take the "Le Chemin de notre Mémoire" (Lou Camin de notre Mémori) trail: created from old photos of the village dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, it will guide you through Bagnols-en-Forêt to its oldest sites, from the Oppidum de la Forteresse perched at an altitude of 380 metres, to the chapels of Saint-Denis, Sainte-Anne, Notre-Dame-de-la-Pitié and Saint-Antoine. A natural destination par excellence, Bagnols-en-Forêt definitely lives up to its name since it is surrounded by more than 4000 hectares of thick forests, perfect for hiking, mountain biking, climbing, or even for family outings. Hiking along the Vallon de la Vauloube and the Falaise de Colle Rousse, and climb up to the Col de la Pierre du Coucou, for an unforgettable panoramic view of both the Esterel and Fréjus, but also of the Mediterranean. Framed by the pink cliffs of the Colle du Rouet massif and the Défends massif, the Blavet gorges are well worth a detour: a wooded canyon, perfect for climbing (it has more than 300 equipped routes), it is a vast open-air playground for outdoor activity aficionados. In the hollow of the cliffs, the Muéron cave is a must see, as is the Gourbachin waterfall.

Finally, as the beaches of the Mediterranean are only about twenty kilometres away, it will be possible for you to make a detour and enjoy the fine sand and the many nautical activities offered both in Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël or Sainte-Maxime. Wakeboard, surf, paddle, sail, jet-ski, scuba diving, flyboard, longe-côte, sea outings, bodyboard, towed buoys and kitesurfing will entertain adults and children alike, unless you simply prefer to swim and enjoy the pill under the sun!
