Perched village in the south of the Luberon massif, Ansouis is located in the department of Vaucluse, a few steps from the Bouches-du-Rhône which is separated by the Durance river which flows a few steps. Neighbouring the town of Pertuis, this ancient village is a real journey through time in itself. A thousand-year-old town, inhabited since ancient times, Ansouis (pronounce the "s", we're in the south of France!) has been on the very select list of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France" since 1999. It is that it is good to live in Ansouis! With its old houses decorated with light-coloured shutters, its abundant vegetation and its incredible warmth, the village is welcoming, familiar, and you will feel as if you have always been in Ansouis... Perhaps because you will have recognised these very special streets, which were used as a setting for the films "Jean de Florette" and "Manon des Sources" by Claude Berri, shot in the village! Here, a little like the most emblematic destinations of the Luberon Regional Natural Park, the cobbled streets lead along their old stones to houses with a Provencal charm, organized around the emblem of the village: its castle. A thousand-year-old building constructed at the top of a rocky outcrop in the heart of the Aigues valley, sheltered from the mistral wind, this castle, originally a Celto-Ligurian fortress, has evolved over the centuries to now boast a 17th century façade, a large keep flanked by four towers and fortifications that you can discover during your visit. Both medieval and Renaissance in style, this castle, which has passed through many eras, is worth a visit for its building, its decorations, its tapestries and the views you can discover from its French-style Provençal gardens and terraces. Then cross the village, passing under the decorative campanile that sits atop a very old clock tower, to finally reach the church of Saint-Martin. Dating from the 13th century, this imposing building is worth a visit for its architecture as well as for the historical treasures it contains, including period furniture and paintings. The Maison des Consuls, the Grand Portail, the Petit Portail (the only surviving gate of the old fortifications), the Tubet Royal, the Belfry, the remains of the two fortified walls, but also the Place Saint-Elzéar, the Place des Hôtes and its shops and terraces where it is good to have a coffee, are all sites that you should visit.

Also, after having visited the Extraordinary Museum of Georges Mazoyer, the Museum of the Arts and Crafts of Wine, discovered the breathtaking panorama from "the balcony", taken an ice cream at the Art Glacier and discovered the ceramists, the wood sculptors and the workshop of the Santonnier of the street of the Small Portal, what would you say to a small hike ? There are many itineraries that pass through the village and that will allow you to enjoy beautiful walks, sporting or contemplative, pedestrian or cyclist, to discover the relief of the region.
