In the heart of what is known as the "Dry Stone Country", nestling between the Luberon and the Monts de Vaucluse, the small village of Cabrières d'Avignon is peacefully blossoming in the midst of an abundant and generous nature. A town with two faces, contrasting and surprising, it will win the hearts of nature and authenticity lovers.

Picturesque village just at the foot of the Monts de Vaucluse, Cabrières d'Avignon, that's its name, takes place in the heart of a magnificent region, only 30 kilometres east of Avignon. An amazing destination, it reveals to its visitors two different pictures: if one offers splendid panoramas on the "dry" Provence where bories, apiers and aiguiers prosper in a dense garrigue, the other is characteristic of the generosity of the area, with the plain of Calavon planted with vines, almond trees, abundant olive trees and cherry trees with fruits, which have been delighting for many years the taste buds of the gourmands passing through Cabrières d'Avignon. In the village, there are many historical sites to see, such as the thick wall surrounding the 13th century castle, the Romanesque church of Saint-Vincent, the chapel of Saint-Eusèbe, and the oratories, fountains, wash houses and bories that make up the charm of this authentic place.

If there is one site in the village that cannot be ignored, it is the Plague Wall. Situated to the north, this dry stone building was originally a rampart built to fight against the spread of the plague that was raging in the Marseille area at the beginning of the 18th century. It has become a well-known hiking spot in the area, and will lead you on a 6-kilometre trail through the Monts de Vaucluse, with splendid views over the Coulon plain, but also over an old medieval castle, not forgetting the vineyards and orchards that surround the town. While hiking aficionados will find many walking routes in Cabrières d'Avignon, mountain bikers will enjoy the fantastic marked trails, such as the Véloroute du Calavon, a 37-kilometre ride between Coustellet and La Paraire, or the trails of the Eurovéloroute n°8, which links Greece to Spain. But without going so far, in the area, there are many perfect sites for a change of scenery, cultural or sporting outing according to your desires. What to see? Gordes and its legendary Notre-Dame de Sénanque Abbey, but also the Forest of the Cedars of the Luberon, Cavaillon 11 kilometres further west, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue about ten minutes away, not forgetting Avignon 30 kilometres west. Carpentras 26 kilometres to the north adds to your "to do list", as do Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and the Alpilles about 30 minutes drive away, and Les Baux-de-Provence 45 minutes further south. All in all, between culture, nature, lavender and old stones, gastronomy and outdoor activities, there is a good chance that a stay in Cabrières-d'Avignon will please you!
