Just a few kilometres from the Alpilles Regional Natural Park, Cavaillon is full of treasures to offer. Watered by the Durance and served by the famous "Autoroute du Soleil", this small village, typical of Provence, has its origins in prehistoric times. Known as the "melon capital", it is full of historical sites to see during your stay on site. First of all, you will have to see the Ancient Arc of Cavaillon, nicknamed "Arc Marius": in the heart of the city centre, these 1st century Roman ruins impress by the beauty of their engravings and ornaments. Not far away, the synagogue of Cavaillon is also worth a visit: built during the 18th century, the one that some consider one of the most beautiful synagogues in France is today a museum, appreciated for its pink walls, its undeniably Provencal style, its suspended armchair, its elaborate balconies and its beautiful gilding. On the religious side, the chapel of the hermitage (12th century) is also worth a visit, as is the splendid Cathedral of Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Véran, inside which you can see paintings from the 19th century. In addition to its superb decor, it houses a 12th century flowered cloister, perfect for finding calm and freshness on hot summer days. Continue your visit with narrow alleys and delicately flowered squares, discovering bourgeois dwellings, shaded courtyards, terraces of cafés and Belle Époque residences that dot Cavaillon. On your way, you will certainly come across the Hôtel-Dieu museum, and the Hôtel d'Agar built on ancient Roman terms (famous for its Renaissance-style ceiling, gothic tower and gargoyles), before heading towards the Saint-Jacques hill. Cavaillon's green lung, it offers a breathtaking view of the entire city from its heights, but also of Mont Ventoux in the distance, the Alpilles Range, the Monts du Vaucluse and the Apt plain.

If one comes to Cavaillon, it is also for its gastronomic richness. Its market is eminently famous in the region, particularly thanks to its melon and its wines of Provence, the jewels of local gastronomy. While in Cavaillon in July, the Melon Festival is definitely not to be missed! Melon tasting, farmers' market, workshops, cooking competitions and horse release in the city centre will be part of these annual festivities.

Cavaillon, the gateway to the Luberon, is a delight for sports enthusiasts every year, offering a wide choice of activities for all tastes. The municipality is famous for its Via Ferrata, which is very easily accessible from the heart of the city (20 minutes by foot from the Tourist Office): in addition to the "Via Natura" loop (discovery route) and the "Via Souterra" loop (sports route), more than 250 climbing routes and other hiking trails will be at your disposal to discover the most beautiful panoramas that Cavaillon and its region have to offer over the surrounding countryside.
