Explore L'Isle sur la Sorgue
Located near Avignon, the Luberon Regional Natural Park and the Alpilles, Isle sur la Sorgue benefits from an ideal location to discover all the singularity of the landscapes of Provence. Nicknamed "Venice Comtadine" or "Venice Provençale" because of its many canals, L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a welcoming city where it is good to live and in which you can give yourself a little rest, far from the tourist cities which, in good weather, can sometimes be a little too busy.
Crossed by two arms of the river, L'Isle sur la Sorgue is famous for its ancient streets and canals with peaceful courtyards lined with flowers. A former fishing village, this commune has built a strong reputation among art lovers and hunters, with more than 300 antique dealers and brocanteurs present throughout the year. Its 6 "villages" of antique dealers are full of incredible treasures ! Nestled at the foot of the Vaucluse plateau, L'Isle sur la Sorgue has a rich historical heritage that perfectly illustrates the importance of the commune in past centuries. You can visit the Collegiate Church of Our Lady of the Angels, whose original architecture is the result of a successful marriage between the Baroque and Southern Gothic styles. From the seventeenth century onwards, the city was transformed to accommodate many wealthy residences and remarkable private mansions on its banks. During your stay you can admire the superb facades of these buildings built for and by the local nobility, starting with the Hotel Guilhem and its large entrance door, the Hotel of Palermo, that of Campredon (now a center of contemporary art), Casal and Salvador Ricard, in rue Michelet. 200 metres away, you will find the Place Ferdinand Buisson, where the Silver Tower built in the Middle Ages is located, and if you continue a little further on, you will come across the present Isle sur la Sorgue Hospital, formerly called "Hôtel Dieu". Visit its chapel, its vestibule, its pharmacy, its magnificent staircases and its gardens which surround numerous buildings classified Historic Monuments.
A multitude of walking trails cross L'Isle sur la Sorgue and its region, so that hikers can discover on foot or by mountain bike the most beautiful sites of the Pays des Sorgues : From the town, you can walk along the canals zigzagging through the town and fields, see the orchards, contemplate wonderful views of the Vaucluse mountains and the surrounding perched villages (such as Saumane-de-Vaucluse and its fortress), but also observe the water mills, fountains, dawn wheels and aqueducts that make L'Isle sur la Sorgue such a pleasant place in the midst of refreshing and green landscapes.
For a sporting outing, opt for a kayak excursion on the Sorgue : from the Plongeoir des Anges to the Partage des Eaux (where, upstream from the town, the river splits in two), you will discover in turn the "small Amazonia", the "rapid of the pin" and the reef of Souspiron. With family or friends, this descent down the Sorgue is ideal for enjoying the scenery and breathing a breath of fresh air in a beautifully preserved natural setting.
Finally, those who could not resist the desire of a few fathoms could go to Marseille which is only 1 hour away.

If you like flea markets, antique shops: this is the ideal place. Very nice discovery of the region and its surroundings. We recommend the Ochre Trail in Roussillon, the Colorado Provencial in Rustrel, the perched villages: Gordes, Venasque, Menerbes, Lacoste, Bonnieux, the lavender house in Coustellet, the castle of Saumane, the hike to the Vaucluse fountain. In L'Isle sur la Sorgue, do the Discovery Trail, the museum of the textile factory Brun De Vian- Tiran, the exhibition of Stéphane Guiran... Destination that we recommend, we will certainly come back...

The big Sunday market is very pleasant. "Le 17 Place aux Vins" and the restaurant "Le Négo" are very good addresses as well as the Beer's Chope for a drink. For ice creams: the Arelatis glaciers. The square in front of the church is well shaded and the terraces are pleasant.
