Come on! Just his name alone is an invitation! A small hilltop village in Provence, in the department of Vaucluse, Viens is just on the border of the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. About 30 kilometres from Manosque and Pertuis, it is the perfect place for a holiday away from the crowds, in harmony with nature.

Nestled at the top of its rocky spur, Viens, it's the watchtower of the Luberon. An old medieval village in Provence, its origins go back to ancient times, and preserves many treasures from its medieval past. Perched at an altitude of 610 metres facing the Luberon massif, in the eponymous Regional Natural Park, this magnificent village offers wonderful panoramas of the Calavon Valley below its slopes. Situated on a ridge road from which the mountain of Lure, the Calavon gorges and the Grand Luberon can be seen, Viens is comfortably installed in the hollow of its thick ramparts (built between the 11th and 13th centuries) and its watchtowers which have been welcoming visitors for centuries now. To enter the village, you will have to go through the Saracen gate, a wide opening in the ramparts which impresses the visitor from the moment he enters thanks to its gate and its Clock Tower. Then take the rue de la Juiverie to discover the Renaissance castle, which from its heights offers incomparable panoramas of the green valleys below. And then, as you wander through the winding lanes that make up the village, many testimonies of the past of Viens will spread out before your eyes: the 16th and 17th century church of Saint-Hilaire, but also the Romanesque chapel of Saint-Ferréol, the Renaissance houses with cobbled courtyards (such as the Maison Monier de La Quarré and the Maison Monier d'Arnaud) and the old washhouses decorate the cobbled streets of Viens like jewels, giving it a certain charm.

Here, nature is sublime, abundant and colourful, ideal for outdoor activities, whether you are a seasoned sportsman or a novice. On foot, on horseback or by bike, you will find many walking routes, which will allow you to discover the most beautiful treasures of the Luberon. Through the lavender fields, the green massifs or even via the ochre road, the whole family will probably be amazed. The Etang de la Bonde 35 kilometres away is a must to do, as is the Gorges de la Nesque 45 kilometres away, not forgetting Rustrel and its legendary "Colorado Provençal"! Located 9 kilometers from Viens, the Colorado Provençal of Rustrel is an old ochre farm, known for its steep reliefs which remind us to be mistaken for some of the most beautiful landscapes of the American West! For a holiday that can't be more exotic!
