Do you want nature, authenticity? A holiday far, oh yes very far, from the traditional tourist routes and the world? What would you say to a trip to the Allier? Little known to the general public, the commune of Echassières will be perfect for a rejuvenating holiday in harmony with nature.

In the department of Allier, between river and mountain, Echassières is located 40 kilometres from Montluçon and 50 kilometres from Vichy. On the border with the Puy-de-Dôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, this quiet town offers peace and quiet for holidays, in the heart of an abundant nature perfect for outdoor activities. In Echassières, no fuss, no souvenir shops, here, authenticity and picturesqueness prevail. There is no doubt that if you have chosen this village as your holiday destination, you will love to wander around its walls to discover its beautiful heritage. Here, you will find two listed monuments, listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments: the Castle of Beauvoir, and the Viaduct of the Bouble. Built during the 15th century, the Château de Beauvoir stands on the edge of the Colettes forest. Built on a rocky outcrop, it offers an incredible panorama of the rolling, green Bourbonnais landscape from its keep. With its tower pierced with loopholes, its 5-metre thick walls and the remains of its surrounding wall, its towers, its drawbridge and its staircase turret, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful buildings of its time in the area. Built in 1868, the Viaduct of the Bouble allows to link Commentry to Grannat while crossing the wonderful valley of the Bouble. Listed as a Historic Monument in 2009, this railway viaduct is 300 metres long and has 17 arches.

But as you will no doubt have understood, Echassières is above all a green destination. Also, in the forest of Colettes, you can discover oaks, pines and a dense vegetation, spread out between 350 and 730 meters of altitude, but especially discover at more than 550 meters high one of the most beautiful natural beech forests of Europe. Marked trails perfect for hiking, horseback riding or even mountain biking will allow outdoor enthusiasts to discover the unique beauty of this forest from which kaolin is extracted, which has been used to make tiles, ceramic products and porcelain since the 19th century. And to learn all about the mineral and geological wealth of Echassières, you can take a tour of the Wolframines, an exhibition dedicated to the geology and mineralogy of the Echassières region. Accrobranche, tyrolienne, walks along the water and gourmet discoveries will complete this stay.

Starting point for many activities: walks, bicycles, near Mont d'Or, Puy de Sancy. During a day in the land of Auvergne cheese, go and eat in Allanche at the restaurant "Le Buron des Estives". Another nice restaurant with a very good welcome: "Le Bruges" in Lapeyrouse. Treetop adventure course and zip lines (Marcillat-en-Combraille).
