Just south of Granville, facing the wonderful Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, the town of Carolles is the ideal place for a Norman holiday. Between excursions and swimming, visits and gourmet breaks, this charming destination is the perfect place for a maritime break with the family or as a couple.

In the Manche department, in Normandy, the small seaside resort of Carolles is located in the south of the Cotentin peninsula. Just north of Mont Saint-Michel, this small farming town is now a charming destination, totally turned towards the sea. Ancient, very ancient, this commune populated since prehistoric times is home to sites that are hundreds of years old, particularly the site of the Cabane Vauban, where you can discover the remains of a Gallic oppidum, a vast 7-hectare fortification known as the "Roman Camp", considered to be a defensive site from the Iron Age. But this famous 18th century guardhouse, the Cabane Vauban, is more recent and was used, like many watchtowers of the time, to watch over the open sea to protect the city from outside invasions. Made of old stones, this small hut is the ideal place to rest and watch the sun rise or set over the Channel. In the heart of Carolles, you can discover a typical village of the region, with beautiful stone houses, and an imposing church Saint-Vigor built in the 16th century, with a tower and a porch from the 17th century. On the church square, you will not fail to cross the path of a Yew tree, majestic and imposing, star of the village, more than 754 years old.

But beyond an interesting built heritage, Carolles marvels at the splendour of its natural heritage. Also, equipped with good trainers, whether you are a pedestrian or an amateur mountain biker, you will find a whole host of perfect routes to discover Carolles and the Cotentin. What to see? The Vallée du Lude, nestled between two high cliffs, which offers to contemplate a preserved and wild site like no other, where foxes, birds and rodents are legion along the stream of Lude. The Valley of the Painters is also a must: watered by the stream of Crapeaux which draws the contours of Carolles, it holds its name of the painters who in number chose at the beginning of the years 1900 to pose their easel to paint there. With its old disused viaduct, which is now used as a hiking trail, and its old granite quarry, this place, like an enchanted interlude, will amaze you with its beauty. Last but not least, the beach of Carolles is worth a visit! Lined with a string of small white bathing cabins, this beach is well known to lovers of fishing (for its grey shrimps) and water sports aficionados. It is a family beach above all, appreciated by families who come to swim there from the first fine days of the year. You can perfect your tan there, have lunch with your feet in the water, or opt for a paragliding flight over the coast and the cliffs of Carolles with a view of Mont-Saint-Michel (which you can reach in only 50 minutes by car), for incredible memories!
