In the department of the Var, south-east of Draguignan, the small wine-growing village of La Motte is a concentrate of all that is best in Provence. Between wide open spaces, glowing red rocks, endless vineyards and culinary traditions, La Motte promises its holidaymakers a clever blend of authenticity, preserved heritage and dreams.

La Motte is a flowery town in the heart of fertile plains, surrounded by the Rousset hill and the heavily wooded Peyblou hill. Watered by the Naturby, a tributary of the Argens, La Motte is a place of peace and escape, in the heart of a particularly well preserved nature. The best way to discover the magnificence of the landscapes of La Motte is still to opt for a visit on foot or by bike. In the heart of its Scots pine forests, through its vineyards, its Gallo-Roman site of Meyas, these are some of its most beautiful faces that you will be led to discover. Along its suspension bridges (including those of the Aymar street), nicknamed the "bardas", take the time to get lost in its old town studded with magnificent Provencal houses, made of local tufa. From cobbled lanes to sloping paths, go through the Placette du Moulin, discover the belfry, the clock tower that dominates the ochre tiled roofs, and the many refreshing fountains that decorate the flowery streets of La Motte. Stroll on the square of Tressavaou to see its monumental stairs carved in tufa, visit the church of Saint-Victor, the oratories, the chapel of Saint-Michel d'Esclans, without forgetting the castles that punctuate the surroundings of the village. From the castle of Valbourgès to the castle of Petits-Esclans, without forgetting the remains of an old castle in the north of the town, you will discover all that makes the history of La Motte. And so as not to lose a crumb, head for the Musée de l'Histoire et des Traditions Mottoises: located in an old oil mill, this museum will plunge you into the heart of the local folklore, to know everything about this small village.

On the nature side, head for the Saut du Capelan waterfall: easily accessible, this 30-metre-high waterfall offers its visitors a breathtaking spectacle. A popular spot for photographers, it brings a bit of freshness to walkers who visit La Motte and its marked trails during the summer. The town is also crossed by the long-distance footpath "Balcons de la Méditerranée", the GR51, which will delight great walkers and other mountain bike fans, who will be able to discover all the most beautiful villages of Provence via this itinerary. If sporting expeditions are not your forte, head for the Saint-Endréol golf course: renowned among golfers, this 18-hole course set in a green setting along the Endre river will be ideal to allow fans of greens to perfect their swing.

La Motte is also a veritable Garden of Eden for epicureans. Gourmet by nature, it offers its most discerning visitors a wide variety of succulent dishes to be enjoyed all year round. If wine has a special place in La Motte, you can also enjoy local honey, Provençal cake, cake of the Kings, oil pump, pistou soup, stew, fougasse and other small simmered dishes generously sprinkled with olive oil.
