Explore Le Muy
It is between the towns of Draguignan (10 kilometres away) and Fréjus (15 kilometres away), just a quarter of an hour from the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean that Le Muy is located. Commune of the Var tinged with the inimitable singing accent of the south of France and its cultural influences, Le Muy is the ideal location for holidays in the sun in the calm of the Var hinterland, far from the crowds of seaside resorts.
Nestled between the Maures and Estérel massifs, in the middle of the Argens plain, Le Muy is surrounded by forests and vineyards, each more famous than the next. Crossed by three rivers and several ponds, Le Muy is favourable to numerous nautical activities: you will be able in particular, along the Argens, to practise canoeing or kayaking in family or between friends, and if you walk until the entrance of the "Défilé des Bagarèdes" (a group of sinuous gorges), you will find a nautical center where the amateurs of paddle in particular will be able to devote themselves to their preferred activity. These paddle rides will plunge you into the heart of nature in the Var, through beautifully preserved natural landscapes. The banks of the Argens will be ideal for a picnic and rest breaks under the Mediterranean sun or in the shade of the forest. Nartuby, Argens and Endre Lake are also the scene of many fishing trips, while Rabinon Lake will delight water ski lift, wakeboard, kneeboard and wakeskate enthusiasts.
If there is one activity that the Esterel, the Moors, the Argens valley and the neighbouring Verdon valley have in common, it is hiking. Whether you are walking, riding or cycling, multiple hiking routes for all levels criss-cross the surroundings of Le Muy, for a perfect discovery of the local fauna and flora. The famous GR 51 in particular, balcony of the Mediterranean, will lead you on its paths through the scented flora of the hinterland and the coastal paths, for a perfect discovery of Le Muy and its surroundings. The Pennafort gorges road is an absolute must : if you are well equipped, it will lead you without much difficulty to the heart of sumptuous and crystalline gorges, along the meanders of the brook and across the Colle du Rouet Massif. Summer and winter alike, we can assure you that the ride is worth it : its changing landscapes, sometimes tinted orange, sometimes tinted green and blue, are among the most beautiful in the sector. In addition to hiking, climbing enthusiasts will be able to have a field day on the cliffs of the surrounding massifs.
Several renowned vineyards open their doors to wine lovers to pass on their know-how and passion. This is the case of Château du Rouët in the foothills of the Esterel, which, like Château Collet Redon and Domaine du Thouar, are among the vineyards in the region that you will have to visit to taste the wines and local products. As for gastronomy, Le Muy is known for its markets : on Sunday mornings on the stalls of the central square, there are seasonal fruits and vegetables, freshly caught seafood, meats and delicatessen products from local production, not forgetting honey and wines from Provence, as well as nougat and the typical fragrant flowers of sunny regions such as mimosa and lavender. On Thursday morning after a game of petanque at the boulodrome of the Place de la République, take the direction of the Provençal market, where we advise you to stroll in search of fresh products that will be perfect for making good small dishes in the colors of the Var. These visits to the market will also be an opportunity for you to discover the medieval heart of Le Muy and its most beautiful buildings such as its ramparts along the bell tower of the church and the round tower of Charles V, an old defence building.
Finally for the irresistible desires of diving into the water, head for the beaches of Fréjus, Sainte-Maxime or Saint-Tropez, to enjoy long afternoons of idleness on the golden sand.
