In the Vendée department, on the border with the Loire-Atlantique, Bois-de-Céné is located in the heart of the Pays de la Loire, in a natural region called the Brittany and Poitou marches. A few steps from the Vendée coast and its most beautiful seaside resorts such as Les Moutiers-en-Rets, La Barre-de-Monts, Saint-Jean-de-Monts and Noirmoutier, the commune is close to Challans, in an environment conducive to rest and escape. A nature paradise, the commune is essentially made up of marshes, with the Breton marshes of Vendée, and a bocage countryside that is particularly suitable for hiking and mountain biking towards the neighbouring department of Loire-Atlantique. Spread over 45,000 hectares of canals, polders and wet meadows, the Marais Breton is studded with numerous oyster farms, but the salt industry has seen a revival in recent years, attracting visitors curious to discover the art of salt farming and its riches. In addition, you can discover a dense flora, where samphire, black mustard and obione grow in large quantities, as well as a rich fauna made up of herons, ducks, storks, marsh harriers and white egrets. The Stork Trail (20.4 km), the Cross of the Spaniards (17 km) and the Reed Trail (8.5 km) will allow you to discover the natural wealth of the Bois-Céné area.

In terms of heritage, Bois-de-Céné has a lot to offer! Rich in a very ancient history, the town has many historical monuments such as the church of Saint-Etienne, a feudal mound dating from the Middle Ages, a magnificent 16th century house that you can find near the church, or the abbey of Ile-Chauvet. Although only two buildings remain of the original building, they are well worth a visit. Founded around 1130 by Benedictine monks from the Abbey of l'Absie, looted during the Hundred Years' War and then becoming private property, it is now adjoined by an imposing neo-Renaissance manor house since 1885.

On foot, by bike or by car, you can reach some of the star seaside resorts of the Vendée coast in a few minutes. La Barre-de-Monts (22 kilometres to the west), Saint-Jean-de-Monts (30 minutes drive), or Les Moutiers-en-Retz 20 kilometres further north are perfect places to lay out your towel and sunbathe. Surfing, paddle, sailing, swimming, sea kayaking, optimist, wing foil and sand yachting will delight lovers of nautical activities, while romantics will delight in bucolic walks on the sand at sunset, after a dinner with their feet in the water... Enough to make these holidays in the Vendée unforgettable!
